The full name for PTFE is Polytetrafluoroethylene, a synthetic polymer containing fluorotetrafluoroethylene. Non-colorant polytetrafluoroethylene is white to transparent. PTFE was discovered by DuPont in 1938 and Teflon is their registered brand. PTFE and Teflon are the same thing, just different names, and sometimes it’s also referred to as F4. Known as the king of plastics, PTFE not only resists high temperatures, but is insoluble in almost all solvents. Its best-known feature is non-stick, and PTFE-coated non-stick pans have appeared in many homes.
