The helical hose is one of two convolution arrangement classifications of metal hoses, the other is the annular hose.
The use of helical hoses is not as common as annular hoses, but why is it an option for metal hoses?
First of all, the helical hose is formed by spinning, which has higher production efficiency than the rubber expansion forming of the annular hose. In some projects with tight budgets, we can help customers gain valuable price advantages.
Second, helical hoses can resist higher pressures than annular hoses. In some high-pressure applications, helical hoses are therefore preferred. Of course, be aware that helical hoses may twist under pressure.
In addition, in some applications where the internal flow medium is liquid, some customers believe that the helical hose is self-draining, and the liquid can be drained along the spiral to reduce internal medium residue. Although this is not recognized by most customers.
Finally, we have to mention the disadvantages of helical hoses, flexibility and assembly. Annular hoses are more elastic than helical hoses, which is why annular hoses are more widely used as flexible connectors. As for assembly, helical hoses are not as easy to cut and weld as annular hoses, which poses a higher challenge to workers.
