Lateral Bellows

Lateral bellows are flex bellows designed to absorb lateral movement.

Lateral movement is the displacement perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the bellows. Related displacement terms are axial movement and angular movement. As the core component of flexible connection, flex bellows can absorb axial, lateral and angular movement.

In order to stably absorb the lateral deflection from the pipe and limit movement in other directions, the outside of the lateral bellows is mostly equipped with fixing devices. Therefore, the lateral bellows is used in the form of a lateral expansion joint. When people talk about lateral bellows, they are usually referring to lateral expansion joints.

Although a single bellows expansion joint can also absorb a small amount of lateral movement, lateral expansion joints are mostly composed of two bellows in series to obtain greater lateral movement capabilities.
