Gimbal Expansion Joint

Gimbal expansion joints are hinged expansion joints that can rotate at any angle in any plane. The gimbal expansion joint consists of a bellows expansion joint, two pairs of hinges and a gimbal ring. Two pairs of hinges are welded on different planes at both ends of the bellows expansion joint. They are perpendicular to each other and connected through a gimbal ring in the middle. Gimbal expansion joints work on the same principle as hinged expansion joints and are a variation of hinged expansion joints. The gimbal expansion joint can withstand the full pressure thrust of the bellows. Gimbal expansion joints are usually used in a combination of two, or two gimbal expansion joints and a hinged expansion joint.
