Interlocked hose, also known as stripwound hose, is a metal hose with an interlocked structure, made by helically winding a metal strip. Interlocked hose is formed by helically winding a pre-shaped metal strip with small folds around a mandrel and mechanically interlocking the overlapping edges. A certain amount of space is designed between interlocked convolutions to accommodate the expansion and bending of the interlocked hose. Its flexibility and smooth bore make it ideal for delivering abrasive materials, such as its use in automotive exhaust bellows and exhaust flex pipes as liners. Stainless steel is the most commonly used material for manufacturing interlocked hoses, while other raw materials include galvanized carbon steel, bronze, and brass. The interlocking design and the use of metallic raw materials make the interlocked hose strong in structure with good bending properties. Compared to rubber hoses, it has better temperature resistance and is suitable for various high-temperature environments. The specific temperature resistance is determined by the metal material used.

According to the different interlocking structures, there are four different types of interlocked hoses. They are single overlap unpacked (SOU), single overlap packed (SOP), double overlap unpacked (DOU) and double overlap packed (DOP). Kipflex offers a variety of interlocked hoses in different sizes, thicknesses, materials, and types for free selection. Unless otherwise specified, our default material is 304 stainless steel.
